CALHOUN, Ga. – There were more than just bragging rights on the line as intracounty rivals Calhoun and Sonoraville faced off in boys’ basketball Saturday night.
This time, it was for the Region 6-AAA title.
The host Yellow Jackets defeated the Phoenix 53-48 to win the title inside a raucous gym.
Led by Davis Allen’s 17 points, Calhoun (20-4) overcame Sonoraville (22-5), which was trying to avenge two regular-season losses to the Jackets. Calhoun finished the regular season undefeated in region play.
“That’s a heck of a ballgame. I’m elated,” Calhoun coach Vince Layson said. “That’s probably one of the top games that I’ve been a part of. That feels really good.”
