Page commentary does not help race relations
The Feb. 7 commentary by Clarence Page (“Why President Trump needs a history lesson” page B6) was a good example of false news by a liberal press.
I read President Trump’s statement about Fredrick Douglas, but failed to see how anyone with reasonable intelligence could have concluded he was not aware that Douglas has been deceased for more than 100 years.
He was simply saying Douglas’ contributions to his race were being recognized more and more as society becomes less racial. Mr. Page was not helping race relations writing such babble.
Liberals are always saying Trump and his followers are anti-immigration. Not so. We are anti-illegal immigration, as we are opposed to any violation of any laws. Most of us would not be here except for immigration, and we know this.
We are tired of open borders, political correctness, bathroom directives, marriage between same sexes, murder of innocent unborn babies and government taking from those that have and giving it to those that don’t.
Donald Trump is president. If you are not grown-up enough to accept this, get a pacifier, sit in a corner and pout.

Bennett’s cartoons land in trash can
About Saturday’s letter to the editor, “Bennett’s cartoons inspire thought:”
For myself, I can only say it “inspires” me to rip the cartoon out of the paper, wad it up into the hardest newspaper ball I can and deliver it overhanded to the small, circular container sitting on the floor by my favorite chair. That’s at least one good deed by me for that day.
Oh, let it also be clear that I do this without even viewing it. That’s my opinion of Bennett’s cartoons.

McCamish right pick in District 2
I was quite disappointed to see Mickey McCamish was not the candidate suggested by either the conservative or liberal editorial page of the Times Free Press.
Since the elections are coming soon, I hope the voters of Chattanooga’s District 2 look closely at the two candidates and see that Mickey McCamish should be their choice.
I noticed in the Sunday Times Free Press that none of Mr. McCamish’s work helping veterans was listed. He chairs a group called the Southeast Tennessee Veterans Coalition. This group helps veterans of all military eras and needs. He works with little acknowledgement getting the job done for veterans. This is the kind of man Mr. McCamish is.
I have been quite lucky to have worked with him on committees, and his thoughtful manner of approaching any situation is one of his strongest virtues.
He is a retired Navy captain. Achieving the rank of captain also indicates his ability as a leader.
Mickey McCamish is the candidate you want in District 2.
