Two performances of The Langston Hughes Project are scheduled today, Feb. 16, in the Humanities Theatre at Chattanooga State Community College, 4501 Amnicola Highway.
Based on Hughes’ jazz poem suite “Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz,” the multimedia performance incorporates all types of musical styles into the 12-part epic poem, including blues, gospel, progressive jazz, Latin, Afro-Cuban mambo music, German lieder and Jewish liturgy.
The concert also features the Ron McCurdy Quartet and Chattanooga State’s John Stigall Spoken Word Contest winners.
A campus performance will start at 11 a.m. and a public performance at 4 p.m.
