Hyper-language belies the truth

It is amazing to read the headlines these last few weeks that describe what is happening in Washington under our new president, Donald Trump.

By the hyper-language the media is choosing to use, one would think World War III has broken out in our nation’s capital. The word “attack” is being overused hundreds of times a day. The words “bitter battle” or “court fight” are used often. A recent headline talked about the White House being under “siege.”

Just this week, a headline stated Trump just launched a “war” on whistleblowers. We are hearing these excessive, extreme and inaccurate terms so often now that we are becoming numb to them. But just stop and think about it for a moment – “war, battle, fighting, attacks and siege:” Is this anywhere close to describing what is going on? Absolutely not!

If there was a foreign tourist coming into our country now and he or she read our headlines for the first time, they would probably cancel their trip to see our nation’s capital for fear they would be entering a war zone and their physical safety might be in jeopardy.
