New UTC coach Tom Arth gets first commitment

Tom Arth enters the Stadium Club Tuesday to speak to fans, the media and attending players for the first meeting as the new Chattanooga Mocs head football coach midday at Finley Stadium.

Dakota Davis, son of former Tennessee and NFL standout Antone Davis, committed to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga football program Friday.

The 6-foot-3, 276-pound offensive lineman needed only a week to choose the Mocs, with the consensus two-star prospect becoming the first commitment for new UTC coach Tom Arth.

Davis played at Bearden High School in Knoxville, where he was first-team All-Region 1-6A in 2016. He already has graduated and will be enrolling at UTC in the spring semester.

"I would like to thank God for the opportunity He has given me to play football at the next level. Without His guidance, none of this would be possible," Davis wrote Friday on his Twitter page.

"I would like to thank all the coaches who have recruited me through this whole process and shown me endless love. I would also like to thank everyone who has helped me through this whole process from my Mom and Dad who push me to be my very best, all of my coaches for having all the confidence in the world in me, and everyone who has made large impact in my recruiting process and wanting only what is best for me."

He becomes the ninth commitment for the Mocs' 2017 signing class and the second from Bearden, joining defensive back Jordan Ferguson.
