A 13-year-old boy happened upon a burned body in the woods of Whitfield County on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, investigators believe someone brought the body into the woods at the dead end of Ellis Road and set it on fire. They believe the body had been in the woods for less than a day.
Investigators are still trying to figure out whose body they found. No ID was in the area. The sheriff’s office is sending the body to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab for an autopsy.
The GBI is helping the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office investigate the case.
