The Dalí Quartet will highlight classical roots and Latin soul in “an eclectic journey of rhythm and sound” Sunday afternoon, Jan. 29, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Part of the St. Paul’s Artist Series, the program by the American string quartet will include classical works by Haydn and Schubert and soulful Latin sounds from Piazzolla, Amaya, Turina, Villa-Lobos and Paquito D’Rivera.

“We love to imagine that European composers of the past, as creative and curious artists, would have been fascinated by the sounds of Latin American composers who followed them,” says second violinist Carlos Rubio.

“There’s joy and common understanding in all types of music, and musical storytelling should be as unique and colorful as the performers,” he explains.

“In our modern global society, we strive to honor the masters of the past while celebrating our rich, and shared, heritage with audiences.”

The all-Hispanic group also features Dominic Salerni, violin; Adriana Linares, viola; and Jesús Morales, cello.

Trained by world-renowned artists, members of the Dalí Quartet are from Venezuela, Puerto Rico and the United States. They have performed throughout the U.S., Canada and South America to a wide range of stages and audiences.

The musicians have drawn praise from Peninsula Reviews for an “engaging style” that “leaves the audience almost dancing in the aisles.”

Salt Lake Magazine called the Dali Quartet “a remarkable ensemble” and “a true crossover group in the best sense of the word” who “bring together the best music by Latin American and European composers.”
