Father, mother charged in Tunnel Boulevard homicide after child left in hot car

Travis McCullough, left, and Jessica Tollett were both charged after one of their children died and two others were hospitalized after being left in a hot car while the father worked at The Buffalo Shack.

A father has been charged with homicide after his 11-month-old child died from being left in a hot car, Chattanooga police say.

Travis McCullough, 30, is charged with criminal homicide and three counts of aggravated assault. The mother of all three children, Jessica Tollett, 24, was charged with aggravated child abuse/neglect.

Police spokeswoman Elisa Myzal said a good samaritan found the child in the 1500 block of Tunnel Boulevard and called 911 at 6:19 p.m. Saturday.

The infant was dead when they arrived, she said. Investigators learned the child had been left unattended in a vehicle for an extended period. Temperatures Saturday were above 80 degrees.

Child Protective Services and police sent the couple's two other children, whose ages were not given, for medical attention. Myzal said the state will take custody once they are medically cleared.
