The Greyhounds bring a change of pace to Nightfall

photo The Greyhounds’ newest album, “Change of Pace,” was released in 2016.

With a sound that they describe as “Hall and Oates meets ZZ Top,” The Greyhounds have been making music and touring for 18 years.

Friday night, July 28, the duo of guitarist Andrew Trube and keyboardist Anthony Farrell roll into Miller Plaza to headline the free Nightfall concert.

Trube and Farrell began playing together after Farrell answered Trube’s ad for a keyboard player in the LA Weekly. The pair toured and recorded in several places before returning to Tyler, Texas, Trube’s hometown. Along the way, they wrote songs that were performed by musicians such as Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks.

In 2004, the duo released “Liberty,” recorded at Truck Farm Studio in New Orleans. The album features guest vocals by Ani DiFranco. In the late 2000s and early 2010s, Trube and Farrell performed as part of the touring band of JJ Grey & Mofro.

In 2013, they signed a three-album contract with the newly reconstituted Ardent Records, based in Memphis. Their first project for Ardent, “Accumulator,” was issued in April 2014. “Heaven on Earth” came out in 2015 and “Change of Pace,” their latest album, was released in 2016.
