BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) – Caeleb Dressel is making it clear he’s the fastest sprinter in the world, winning the 50-meter freestyle at swimming’s world championships Saturday.

Dressel completed a 50-100 freestyle sweep in Budapest with a furious dash from one end of the pool to the other. He touched in 21.15 seconds, trailed by Brazil’s Bruno Fratus and Britain’s Benjamin Proud.

It was the fourth gold medal of the championships for America’s newest swim star, who also was part of the winning 4×100 free and 4×100 mixed medley relay teams.

Dressel is just getting started on what could be a huge night. He is the top seed in the 100 butterfly final and will lead off for the Americans in the mixed 4×100 free relay.

Sarah Sjostrom began the next-to-last night of the championships with a victory in the women’s 50 fly. And Katie Ledecky will swim for the final time as a big favorite in the 800 free.
