Livesay is the right man to lead Bryan
As someone who has been involved with Bryan College for many years, I would like to take this opportunity to share my view of the college and the wise strategies it has recently applied to meet both current and future objectives. It is wise for the administration to regularly assess its program offerings as well as the persons charged with teaching the students entrusted to the college by their parents.
There are a few disgruntled staff and faculty members at Bryan who may take issue with some of the actions of the administration; however, the college is taking principled steps to prepare for the future. I was chairman of the board of Bryan when Dr. Livesay came as president, and I continue to strongly believe that Bryan College is fortunate to have him at its helm.
At the heart of Bryan College is a group of dedicated professionals who are preparing students to become leaders to make a difference in the world. “Christ Above All” is not simply a tagline for this school, but rather, I have found that it is the goal to be sought in each and every task they undertake.

Opposing opinion pages offer something for all
I felt I had to write since so many people are criticizing The Chattanooga Times for its left-leaning opinions and editorial page. Maybe they don’t know the paper’s history. The Times was the morning paper and was left-leaning. The Free Press was the afternoon paper and was right-leaning. The newspapers merged, but both opinion pages continue to offer just that – opinions.
The Free Press opinion page never had a positive opinion of Obama. The Times opinion page shouldn’t have to have a positive opinion of Trump. If you don’t like it, just keep your head to the right. Hope that clears things up.

Violence, homelessness need to be addressed
In light of recent news that the woman found murdered at Renaissance Park was killed during an attempted robbery by three gangsters, I hope that the new police chief has a more successful plan to clean up violence in our city. It is unacceptable for our public parks and places that families frequent to have this kind of violence and for gangsters to feel comfortable roaming these areas. Will Mayor Berke eventually follow through on his original campaign promise to curb the violence in our city?
Also, with Miller Park finally being rebuilt, has the city released any plans to address homelessness and prevent the new park from turning into an outdoor homeless shelter like the old park? I took my son to Miller Park two years ago to see the fountains, but we left almost immediately after seeing a pile of human excrement on the sidewalk next to the fountains. Surely we aren’t rebuilding this park for it to be overrun with the homeless again.
