Chattanooga wins award for sewer pretreatment

Chattanooga has maintained an approved pretreatment program since 1982 and permits, inspects and monitors more than 80 significant industrial users.
Last year, Chattanooga adopted new local limits for pollutant concentrations to regulate the discharge of pollutants to the sewer system by industrial users.
Non-uniform allocations of pollution were established specific to the various industry operations and the nature of their discharges, allowing industries to maintain flexibility while also ensuring adequate protection for the treatment plant operations. Additionally, the change in local limits allows Chattanooga to emphasize best management practices and waste minimization efforts at the industries.
