Divinity Roxx is probably best known as Beyonce's former bass player and musical director.

But with the release of Roxx's album, "ImPossible," last year, she's building her own reputation as a phenomenal recording artist, composer, rapper and musician.

Roxx brings her Dream Work Tour to Nightfall on Friday, June 23, in Miller Plaza, 850 Market St. Combining her favorite genres of rock, hip-hop, funk, jazz and soul, Roxx and her band take audiences on a roller-coaster ride of music.

Her journey to musical stardom started in Atlanta, after falling in love with the bass guitar while studying journalism at University of California-Berkeley. Her career as a bass player skyrocketed after she attended a bass camp led by the legendary Victor Wooten then was invited to tour with him just three months after camp concluded.

She auditioned for Beyonce and was selected as a band member and assistant musical director. While touring and working with the superstar for more than five years, she appeared on countless television shows including the Grammy Awards, Oprah Winfrey's talk show, "Saturday Night Live," "Good Morning, America" and even a special performance at the White House for Barack Obama.

Roxx also served as musical director for 2NE1, joining them on their first worldwide New Evolution Tour in 2012. She has backed legends such as Patti Labelle, Kelly Rowland, Erykah Badu and Gladys Knight on BET's "Black Girls Rock" television show.

With the release of "ImPossible," her audiences truly get a sense of the artist she has become and the purpose of her music. Its first single, "We Are," was inspired by the late June Jordan, whom Roxx names as her most influential professor while studying at UC-Berkeley.

"'We Are' is more than a song, it's the message I want to give to the world. We are the only ones who can positively effect the change we want to see in this world," Roxx says.
