The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has warned Walker County residents tonight to boil water before drinking.

According to a news release from the county, inspectors found an E. coli sample in a well at the water treatment plant. This was not the treated product that the Walker County Water & Sewerage Authority distributes to customers.

Still, the EPD has sent a precautionary boil water notice for people in the following areas:

  • Lee Clarkson Road and areas immediately to the north.
  • Johnson Road to Mission Ridge Road, as well as areas east to the county line.
  • Areas south of Chickamauga, along U.S. Highway 27 down to Georgia State Route 136.
  • From West McCarter Road to Georgia State Route 151 and north to Round Pond Road.
  • From Straight Gut Road east to U.S. Highway 27.

This does not affect customers of Tennessee American Water, the City of Chickamauga Water System, Walker County Rural Water, Dade County Water, Chattooga County Water Dalton Utilities and Catoosa County Utility District.
