KNOXVILLE — Two linemen are no longer with Tennessee’s football program.

The Volunteers on Tuesday afternoon announced defensive end Dimarya Mixon and offensive lineman Charles Mosley remain enrolled in school but will not be part of the program moving forward.

No official reason was provided by a program official.

Both players were part of Tennessee’s 2014 signing class, and only 13 players still remain from the 32-player class that was ranked among the top five classes nationally.

Mixon originally signed with Nebraska out of West Mesquite High School in Texas in 2013, but he wasn’t cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

He declined to go to junior college and instead continued training while working at a fast-food restaurant in Texas before his second recruitment wound up with him landing at Tennessee and enrolling in January 2014.

In 37 appearances the past three seasons, Mixon made 19 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack, last season against Tennessee Tech, in a reserve role.

He was sent home from the team a couple of days before Tennessee beat Nebraska in the Music City Bowl in December.

photo Tennessee’s Charles Mosley (78), a former defensive lineman who has spent the past two seasons practicing with the offensive line, has moved back to defensive tackle for the Vols, who are thin at that position largely because of injuries.

Mosley was a big recruiting coup for the Vols out of Brighton in West Tennessee in 2014, but his career was more about what happened off the field than on it.

In July of his first year, Mosley was involved in a serious car accident while traveling back home with his family and suffered a broken leg that forced him to redshirt the 2014 season.

He originally began his career at defensive tackle during spring practice in 2015 before moving to the offensive line, where in two years he never significantly contributed.

Mosley was charged with a DUI in July 2015, though the charges were dropped in April 2016.

Injuries at defensive tackle prompted the 6-foot-4, 340-pound Mosley to move back to that side of the ball in November of last season, but he still was unable to crack the rotation and make an impact.
