The 6th Cavalry Museum in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., will host its next adult painting party, Painting for a Purpose, on Thursday, March 23, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Well-known local artist Durinda Cheek will be the night’s instructor. She has chosen a “Remembrance Day” theme to commemorate the United States entering World War I in April 1917. Guests will paint a field of red poppies, made famous by the World War I poem “In Flanders Fields.”
The fee per person is $40, which includes a catered dinner, canvas, painting supplies and instruction. Each guest will leave with a completed 16-inch by 20-inch acrylic work of art. Each canvas will be pre-sketched, and Cheek will demonstrate painting techniques, how to mix colors and give individualized instruction.
Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Guests may bring the adult beverage of their choice. Participants should bring an apron or old shirt to protect their clothes. Door prizes will be awarded during the party.
Proceeds from Painting for a Purpose benefits the 6th Cavalry Museum, located on the former Army Post in Fort Oglethorpe.
Registration is required since class size is limited to 20 participants. Register online at 6thcavalrymuseum.com.
