With its two-day opening weekend in the books, Chattanooga Market returns to its traditional one-day format of Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 7.
The market welcomes back the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera for performances at 1 and 2 p.m., conducted by Kayoko Dan. And sitting alongside those musicians will be several amateurs ages 18 and older who paid a $35 registration fee for the chance to sit in with the symphony. The Play-Along performance is fun for these community instrumentalists to see how they match up to the pros, and fun for the audience who might not get to the Tivoli Theatre for the CSO’s regular concert series.
Registration has closed for the play-along, but anyone may come hear the performances.
Visitors coming to the market this weekend will find a wide selection of spring plantings including fruit-producing bushes and trees, tomato plants, potted herbs, sunflowers, perennials and annuals.
Strawberries are the showstopper this week, according to market spokeswoman Melissa Siragusa, with several more Sundays of availability to go.
She reminds market patrons that the produce selection will greatly increase in coming weeks, offering optimal variety for shoppers who support local farms.
