If you watched the Season 3 finale of “House of Cards,” you may have noticed JJ Grey’s song, “The Sun Is Shining Down,” from the album “Brighter Days” playing during the episode.

JJ Grey & Mofro will be at Track 29 on Friday, May 5, and it’s a good bet that will be in the set list as well as music from the latest album, “Ol’ Glory.” But with seven albums to his credit, that’s a lot of territory for Grey to cover in one show.

“Ol’ Glory” is a blend of rock, soul, blues, funk and Southern-inspired narratives. It received high praise from The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Garden & Gun, PopMatters and Relix upon its release.

Floridian Grey has developed a following of loyal fans because he is a gifted storyteller who delivers thoughtful messages in an everyman style. He possesses a strong sense of place and those Southern roots are what shaped his music. In fact, Oxford American magazine dubbed him “The Swami of Swamp Rock.”

From the greasy local juke joints where he started playing to the major festivals he headlines today, JJ Grey delivers music with relentless, blue-collar honesty.
