Hamilton County Commission discusses school district's budget

Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger is presenting the school district's budget to the county commission this morning.

The Hamilton County Board of Education approved a balanced budget last month, along with a list of additional needs totaling $24 million.

The board agreed that the district needs more money, but six board members decided to use a different strategy than just requesting the additional funds in the budget, as has been tried unsuccessfully for years.

If Coppinger allocates additional funding for schools in the county's budget, the commission must make the decision to approve or deny it.
