A Hixson man is facing rape and kidnapping charges after allegedly holding a woman and her son against their will in a home for nearly four days.

Police first responded to a domestic assault call involving Dayton Ogletree, 27, on North Germantown Road early Monday morning, according to court records. A SWAT team was called in once police realized Ogletree was refusing to come out of the home and had a one-year-old boy with him.

The woman who called police to the scene said she had jumped from the window of her home to escape Ogletree, who had beaten, raped and strangled her multiple times over the last several days. She said Ogletree had shown up at the house on Thursday and refused to allow her to leave.

Police noted the alleged victim’s face and body were bruised and she had marks on her neck consistent with being strangled.

She added that she believed Ogletree was under the influence of meth and said he told her he would kill the child if police responded. She also said he was armed with a mallet and that he was on probation and had an ankle monitor.

Eventually, Ogletree was taken into custody and the child was found inside the home, unharmed. Child Protective Services was notified, and the boy was left in the custody of his grandmother.

Ogletree was transported to the police services center, where he waived his rights and said the alleged victim had beaten him and refused to let him leave the home.

Police noted he appeared to be under the influence of some intoxicant or narcotic, but he said he only smokes marijuana and that the woman was using meth and other drugs. He also had bruising and scratch marks on his arms that were consistent with defensive wounds from the victim, police said.

Ogletree has been charged with rape, aggravated domestic assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of kidnapping. He is next set to appear in court before Hamilton County General Sessions Court Judge Lila Statom on May 22.
