COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Kayla Boseman was back in the circle for Ooltewah in a Region 3-AAA softball semifinal Monday nigiht. Her shutout pitching, combined with plenty of offense, helped the Lady Owls keep their season going.
Boseman struck out nine and every Ooltewah batter collected at least one hit as the visiting Lady Owls knocked off Cookeville 6-0.
“(Boseman) pitched well,” Ooltewah coach Jon Massey said of the junior righty, who played during the District 5 tournament but did not pitch in the final loss because she was banged up as a result of being hit by pitches multiple times. “She wasn’t feeling the best in the world, but she gutted it out and she pitched hard.”
Ooltewah (31-7) will play at Soddy-Daisy at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the region final.
The Lady Owls took advantage of a pair of Cookeville errors to get on the scoreboard in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, Cheyanne Sales advanced to second on an infield miscue. After a Tyler Sullivan sacrifice, Jadyn Raschke made it 1-0 with a two-out single up the middle that scored courtesy runner Marissa Forrester.
In the fifth, Boseman ripped a one-out double to right center, and courtesy runner Makayla Strickland moved to third on an error that allowed Mabry Carpenter to reach base. Sales blasted a sacrifice fly to deep center, and Sullivan ripped an RBI double to right center for a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Owls added another run in the sixth and two in the seventh.
Sullivan and Shelby Sutton led the offense with two hits each, while Carpenter and Forrester scored two runs each.
Amanda Phy led the Lady Cavaliers (16-11) offensively, batting 1-for-2 with a walk.
