Lee Theatre will present “Sparkles: The Caterpillar Who Became a Butterfly” in free performances at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20. The play for children ages 2 and older will be held in Buzz Oates Theater, located in Lee University’s Communication Arts Building, 345 Church St.

“Lee Theatre is excited to produce another show aimed at the very young,” says Dr. Christine Williams, associate professor of theatre. “Theatre for this age group is a growing movement in the larger theatre world that seeks to introduce our youngest audience members to the magic and fun of theatre. With short performances designed just for their attention span, children have the opportunity to enjoy a performance made just for them.”

According to Williams, the short play follows the story of Sparkles the caterpillar as she grows into a butterfly. The play includes songs and opportunities for children to join the action.

The play is free, nonticketed and open to the public. It is made possible through a grant from the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce.
