Second Amendment didn’t mean hunting and more letters to the editors

Second Amendment didn’t mean hunting

Once again, I will attempt to educate the uneducated about “assault rifles” and our Second Amendment. In the Nov. 12 Times Free Press, a letter writer said, “It ain’t for hunting, folks.” Neither is the Second Amendment! Never has been. Never will be.

Our Founding Fathers did not write the Second Amendment to protect hunters’ rights! It was written to protect citizens against the possibility of a tyrannical government. My God-given right to self-defense allows me to own any firearm I deem necessary for protection.

I’m a benefactor life member of the NRA, and Wayne LaPierre, our executive vice president, explains it this way: “The elites always protect themselves and they always protect themselves with guns. And then they lecture the American public how you shouldn’t do that … what the NRA is fighting for is reciprocity, to enforce the existing federal gun laws and to protect Americans’ right to protect themselves.”

I say, if a bad guy has a 30-round magazine, so will I. And Jesus said, “He who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one” (Luke 22:36). Jesus certainly wasn’t talking about slicing tomatoes. It’s about self-defense, folks!

Support Heritage Center’s mission

We so appreciated the excellent TFP coverage of local veterans who have served our country in various wars and conflicts. Unfortunate as these wars may have been, the courage, selflessness and dedication of the men and women who’ve served, as well as their families, are worthy of our gratitude and respect.

Because of this coverage in the days leading up to Veterans Day, our community was well reminded of what it takes to make our country free.

To add to our appreciation of our armed forces, on Sunday we heard Gen. Bill Raines talk about the state-of-the-art Medal of Honor Heritage Center that will open in the former Visitors Center next to the Aquarium. It will be a brick and mortar reminder of the heroic efforts so many of our countrymen have made.

The museum is seeking community donors to help it become a tangible source of information about the principles of character, dedication and sacrifice that all of us need in our daily lives as Americans.

If you haven’t heard Gen. Raines’ presentation, I encourage you to attend one that he gives throughout the region.

Moore defenders need to read Bible

Citing that Mary too was an adolescent while her husband, Joseph, was a 30-something carpenter, the clown car of evangelic defenders of Roy Moore who equate the parenthood of Jesus with the unspeakable molestation of a child need to do a little more homework before lecturing the rest of us.

According to Isaiah 7:14, Mary conceived by way of the Holy Spirit without the agency of a human father, and Jesus was born while Mary was still a virgin.

If you’re gonna use the Bible as a basis to justify and defend the abhorrent actions of a pedophile, at least try to get that part right.
