SideTrack, the new restaurant in Rivermont opened by Canyon Grill, Boathouse and Sugar’s Ribs owner Lawton Haygood, offers the perfect solution for locals impatient for the July start of Tennessee’s blackberry season.

The restaurant’s popular Blackberry Thrill cocktail is a blend of blackberry puree – made with frozen blackberries picked at their prime – along with bourbon and tuaca, a brandy liqueur consisting of Italian brandy, Mediterranean citrus and vanilla spice.

“It’s not necessarily anything new, just some things that go really well together,” says Jason Greer, the SideTrack manager who created the drink.”I wanted to make a bourbon cocktail that would appeal to women, but not [be] so girly that guys wouldn’t drink it.”

He succeeded with the Blackberry Thrill, as evidenced by the men and women who line the bar each Monday, when the spirit-forward, bourbon-heavy, daiquiri-like drink is offered for half price.
