A popular Main Street bar is changing its name – slightly.

Clyde’s on Main at 122 W. Main St. is now called HiFi Clyde’s as part of a settlement of a 2-year legal dispute over the name of the 4-year-old bar and restaurant.

There was no money paid in the settlement, but the Clyde’s name and sign will be altered to avoid any confusion, Clyde’s co-owner Taylor Monen told the Nashville Business Journal.

The new name refers to “high fidelity” and reflects the live music often featured at Clyde’s on Main, Monen said.

Two years ago, Clyde’s Restaurant Group, which runs 14 bars and restaurants in the Washington, D.C., area including nine with the Clyde’s name, sued MF Restaurant, which owns Clyde’s on Main Street and a similar Clyde’s on Church opened in 2016 in Nashville. The Washington, D.C., Clyde’s claimed the Chattanooga restaurant group was infringing on its trademark over the use of the Clyde’s name.

Mike and Taylor Monen, who also own Taco Mamacita and Milk & Honey in both Chattanooga and Nashville along with Urban Stack and Community Pie in Chattanooga, adopted the Clyde’s name for the Main Street restaurant because of its former owner. The Clyde’s Auto Glass name still is painted on the side of the building at Main and Williams streets.
