A fire Saturday evening caused about $40,000 worth of damage to a home on Grand Avenue where five children playing outside played a role in the discovery of the fire.
The fire broke out Saturday at 6:15 p.m., Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman and Battalion Chief Lesley Morgan said in a statement.
“Upon arrival it was unclear if everyone was out of the structure so firefighters with Quint 14 did a primary search,” Morgan said. All the residents were determined to already out of the structure and unharmed, Morgan said.
The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters and was determined to be electrical in nature.
Firefighters praised smoke detectors and alert children.
