Bob Dorough, the jazz pianist, singer, composer, songwriter, arranger and producer who sealed his success as the creator of the “Schoolhouse Rock!” series, is being remembered on WTCI following his death on April 23 at age 94.
The local PBS station will air an encore broadcast of an episode of “The A List With Alison Lebovitz” that features Dorough at 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 1. Online audiences also can stream the episode at www.pbs.org/video/bob-dorough-gsk6rt.
Dorough visited Chattanooga in 2012, entertaining audiences at WTCI’s Family Day, the Riverbend Festival, JJ’s Bohemia and Normal Park Museum Magnet School as a guest of the Shaking Ray Levi Society. Along with sharing his jazz skills, he showcased such treasures as “Three Is a Magic Number” and “I’m Just a Bill,” two of the dozens of educational and entertaining songs he popularized in the “Schoolhouse Rock” series of TV cartoons that appeared Saturday mornings in the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s.
Paul Grove, president and CEO of WTCI, says, “We were thrilled to have the legendary Bob Dorough as a part of our Family Day experience and honored that we are able to celebrate his life through this encore broadcast of one of my favorite programs.”
“The A List With Alison Lebovitz” enters its 10th season this fall.
WTCI airs on Comcast and EPBFI channel 5 in Chattanooga.
