BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) – Police in upstate New York say an intoxicated driver from Tennessee attempted to run down churchgoers in a parking lot.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office says 63-year-old Paul Hussey was arrested Wednesday on multiple counts of assault and drug-related charges. The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports Hussey is accused of attempting to run over members of a Batavia church with his car Wednesday evening while he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Deputies say the South Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, man was drinking and had used drugs. Officials also say they found methamphetamines in his possession.

Hussey was arraigned in town court and remanded to county jail. He’s expected to return to court at a later date. Authorities didn’t know if Hussey has a lawyer yet.
