Carlos Mencia began doing stand-up on amateur night at the world-renowned comedy club Laugh Factory. After he found success on the Los Angeles comedy circuit, Mencia was named International Comedy Grand Champion by Buscando Estrellas (a Latino version of "Star Search"). This led to appearances on "In Living Color," "The Arsenio Hall Show," "Moesha" and "An Evening at the Improv."

He received a Cable ACE Award nomination for Best Stand-Up Comedy Special for his HBO special. He starred in "Mind of Mencia" on Comedy Central, which debuted in early 2005. It was executive produced by Mencia and Robert Morton ("Late Night with David Letterman").

The show was an instant hit and after the first season, Comedy Central signed Mencia to his own original stand-up special, "Carlos Mencia: No Strings Attached." The comedy show was the first Comedy Central Stand-Up Special DVD to achieve platinum sales status.

His current tour, the C 4 Urself Tour, has been making stops all around the country. Mencia will be at The Comedy Catch, 1400 Market St., Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 16-18.

Shows are scheduled Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Tickets for all shows are $27.

A special VIP meet-and-greet 30 minutes before showtime is available. VIP tickets include a photo with Mencia and one signed piece of merchandise. VIP tickets are an additional $24. They are available by phone only at 423-629-2233.

G.R. Goodwin and Friends close out the weekend on Sunday, Aug. 19, with a 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets are $12.

Goodwin is local comedian whose guests Sunday will be D.J. Lewis, Eric Foster, Tracy Willingham and Sir-Jee.
