A suspect has been arrested and charged in the Wednesday robbery of First Tennessee Bank on Brainerd Road, according to a Chattanooga Police Department news release.

A bank employee reported the robbery about 1 p.m. but when police arrived on scene the suspect had already fled in a vehicle. A countywide be on the lookout was issued for a Chevrolet pickup truck.

Officers in the 4000 block of 10th Avenue observed a vehicle fitting the description and attempted to execute a traffic stop. The driver of the pick-up crashed at 3600 Dodds Avenue and was taken into custody. The suspect, 46-year-old Larry Gene Maddox, was not injured in the crash.

CPD robbery investigators along with FBI agents interviewed Maddox and he confessed to robbing the bank.

Maddox is charged with robbery and is in custody at the Hamilton County Jail.

Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525.
