Lee requested to stay good neighbor

Dr. Eddie Duncan and I purchased our home at 1790 North Ocoee Street from Anne and S.B. Rymer about 20 years ago. Since Eddie’s death in 2008, I purchased S.B. Rymer’s first home at 1783 Church Street and the corner lot of Church and 18th streets. Therefore, I have concerns from Ocoee Street to Church Street.

Our neighborhood association is committed to protecting the boundaries of our historic neighborhood. We want the Dethero House that Lee University now owns, 1790 Church Street, to remain zoned R-1. We are working with Lee diligently on a “conditional use” option within the R-1 zoning code so that Lee can use the home for its stated intended use. We had an 18-year agreement with Dr. Paul Conn, city of Cleveland and residents in the zoning compromise that was accomplished at the Cleveland City Council meeting in January of 2000. My husband, Dr. Eddie Duncan, was very involved in this discussion.

We are only asking Lee University to continue to be good neighbors as they promised in the January 2000 agreement.

Ann T. Duncan
