The Red Bank Boxing Club endured significant losses in a break-in this week at the Henry Luken Sports Building. “It happened Tuesday night or Wednesday. We don’t practice on Wednesdays, so we don’t know for sure,” club director Skipper Fairbanks said Friday. Among the stolen items were the club’s public-address system, $100 from the concession stand, four new pairs of 20-ounce gloves and three new headgear, Fairbanks reported. The hardest to replace, though – and seemingly the least useful for a burglar – were the boxers’ registration books that are carried to competitions. They were in a coaching bag that also included the headgear. Anyone who runs across any of those items or other information about the break-in is asked to call the Red Bank Police Department or Fairbanks at (423) 877-4113.

» Local top-level professional fisherman Jacob Wheeler spread some holiday cheer for 10 local youngsters Tuesday. Wheeler, a leader in the Bassmaster Elite Series even before moving to Harrison from Indianapolis, treated the 10 from the Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga to $150 shopping sprees at the Academy Sports + Outdoors store near Hamilton Place mall. He also offered some fishing tips and photos with the kids and his Academy-labeled bass boat and pickup truck.
