A teacher and businesswoman has announced her bid in the May 1 Republican Primary for Bradley County Commission District 6, Seat B.

“I see greater opportunity for Bradley County and the Sixth District in particular. I look forward to earning the trust of the voters so that we can work together to make that opportunity a reality,” Southeast Tennessee native Erica Davis said in her announcement Thursday.

Davis – owner with her husband, James, of James Davis Trucking – earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a master’s degree in special education from Lee University. She serves as a behavioral intervention specialist with the Bradley County Schools system, giving her “a unique perspective into the needs in Bradley County” through her daily interactions with students, she said.

“We need to do all we can to prepare our students for the future. That means investing in STEM, and the latest technology,” Davis said in the announcement. “We need to be ready to act on those opportunities in order to prepare our kids for life after graduation.”

Davis said she’s also concerned about community safety.
