Journalists defended for professionalism
A recent letter to the editor attacking the integrity of journalists and their credibility is another Trump-style attack on the media.
The writer’s attack on journalists’ professionalism, their education, their chosen academic field, his assumption that journalists party all the time and give pick-up lines in a bar is an insult to the integrity of journalism. Shame on you!
The only blatant propaganda is Faux News, which would rather instigate distrust and blatantly lie rather than take the time to actually investigate the facts and research the truth as well as people like the letter writer who make unscrupulous assumptions that are not true.
Journalists work hard and often put their own lives on the line for truth.
You might want to remember that.

Look to the past for solutions today
If you want to stop the killing of our children, grandchildren and our teachers, then turn that TV off and sit down for a minute and think.
When did this all start? Has this always been a problem? How can it be stopped?
At my age, I can remember each morning, before our school started, we all gathered in the auditorium for prayer and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. There was no policeman there to keep us safe. We knew that God was there and would protect us and keep us safe.
Then the ACLU and other liberal organizations, along with many parents, decided God was not needed, so they took God out of school. They also decided that prayer and the pledge to our flag were unneeded.
It would be hard to find a Bible in school today, but a knife, gun, bullying, marijuana, etc.
People, we have to remember how it used to be. That is the only thing that will ever stop this carnage.
Now you can get up and go back to turn on your TV. Believe this old man, a prayer is the only answer for all of this.

To get my respect, show some respect
I must respond to the letter to the editor titled, “Oval Office occupant deserves respect.”
I will show the president the respect of his office when Mr. Trump shows respect for the office he holds. It works both ways.

Take NRA money? Don’t vote for ’em
The voters of America hold the key to banning assault rifles.
If we do not vote for any politician who receives money from the NRA, we would have a Congress not beholden to the NRA. I feel if a politician cannot get elected without NRA money, we do not need him/her in Congress.
We will never get rid of all guns. The Second Amendment says “arms.”
Let people keep their non-automatic handguns and rifles, but let’s forbid the sale of any assault rifle and other rapid-firing weapons.
Put the sport back in hunting, and let the hunter have to reload and give the prey a fighting chance. Human victims would gain the same benefit.
