The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the fatal shooting of a man in Walker County who was killed by deputies with the Walker County Sheriff's Office early Monday morning.

Deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of Meadowview Lane in Rossville around 3:15 a.m., according to a news release from the GBI. In the call, authorities were told a woman at the home was threatening to kill herself and her children.

Once on scene, a deputy saw Mark Parkinson, 65, in the home with a weapon, the release states. Deputies said multiple times that they were from the Walker County Sheriff's Office, but Parkinson pointed the weapon at one of them, prompting the deputy to fire his weapon multiple times.

Parkinson was fatally wounded, but no deputies were injured. The body will be transported to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.

Once the investigation is concluded, the case will be turned over to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.
