A high speed chase that crossed state lines ended in a fiery crash in north Georgia after the fleeing vehicle hit a ditch, flipped and caught on fire.

The chase resulted in the arrest of driver Joshua Merciers, 27, and Jamie Swafford, 23. Both have outstanding warrants and have been booked into Hamilton County jail more than 12 times, each, Right2Know records show.

The chase started Saturday at approximately 2 a.m. when an office saw their vehicle driving erratically on Suck Creek Road, according to a release from Hamilton County Public Information Office Matt Lea.

The drivers fled onto Signal Mountain Road before heading north in the southbound lane on Highway 27. The vehicle made a U-turn and headed south, eventually getting onto Interstate 75 southbound. Merciers allegedly exited at Cloud Springs Road and rammed a patrol vehicle near the intersection of Lake View Drive, according to the release. The officer was OK, and the pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed.
