Conservatives get no love in the Times Free Press
When the Chattanooga Times and the Chattanooga Free Press merged, I said it would be a dark day. I turned out to be right.
Yes, you claim that you have a conservative page in the editorial section, but I feel it’s a very weak one.
Your local cartoonist gives the most obnoxious display with no rebuff. Your so-called Perspective front page on New Year’s Eve (a compilation of the cartoonist’s 2017 work) was the most outrageous piece of garbage I’ve ever seen, again with no rebuff.
It’s too bad the Chattanooga area has no other choice to get local news.

Focus on things above in this year
There are new challenges to face and new choices to make in the new year. What will be your mindset? If you are not focused, you could get distracted. Just as a half inch could divert the alignment of a building, one distraction could deter your focus the rest of the year.
1. Focus on your new life in heaven
There are a number of things John the apostle saw that would be no more. He saw that pain, struggles and sufferings in this life will no longer be present in the new life in eternity. Wow!
2. Focus on your new home in heaven
Jesus Christ gave a revelation to John as he was banished to the island of Patmos. In a vision, he saw some things not of this world, including a new home in heaven filled with eternal bliss.
That heaven only awaits those, who, by faith, have trusted in the finished work of Christ. So, set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth (Colossians 3:1-4).
Have a new vision, focus on the two things John received from Christ. Fix your eyes on Jesus. Stay focused on heaven.

Hawaiian panic portends trouble
The 38 minutes of undiluted panic in the Hawaiian Islands is a wake-up call. Given the gross incompetency in the Oval Office this, sadly, is no longer an unthinkable nightmare scenario but a new reality we haven’t faced for more than a generation.
Though the false alert was simple human error which will be corrected with a proper fail-safe system, the specter of unspeakable horror is not so easily remedied. The recklessly bellicose rhetoric between leaders possessing massive means of destruction endangers all of us.
We don’t have to look back any further than World War I to see how this has resulted in the past.
When will members of Congress – not just the retiring ones – find their spine and call-out this know-nothing carnival barker we have for a president for what he is? Can we seriously countenance three more years of this?

Spend wisely: Build the non-wall wall
To wall, or not to wall?
Under Trump, illegal immigration has been cut by 70 percent. Could the proposed billions for the wall be better spent to reduce the remaining 30 percent?
Possibly it would be more effective to have more guard stations, more personnel, cameras, sensors and drones, etc. Also, this might be more acceptable to those opposed to the wall.
