MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man has been sentenced to 101 years in prison, convicted of attempting to rape and strangle his then-girlfriend after a beach outing in February 2016.

The Birmingham News reports 28-year-old Christopher Chase Hall was sentenced Monday on convictions including domestic violence strangulation, first-degree attempted rape and reckless endangerment.

Assistant District Attorney Tandice Hogan says Hall and the victim began fighting on the drive back from the beach at Dauphin Island. Hogan says Hall tried to strangle the woman, repeatedly shoved his fingers in her mouth and then attempted to rape her when they arrived at their apartment.

Hogan says Hall then offered to take the woman to a hospital for treatment of her injuries, but he began forcing the victim to swerve into traffic on the drive there.
