Veterans still waiting for Fonda apology

A recent letter, “Stop picking on poor Jane Fonda,” attempted to place the mantle of sainthood on “Hanoi Jane” Fonda.

Her intention in visiting North Vietnam was exactly what it was – treason and treachery. She said she was used by the NVA; however, she went willingly.

Imagine an 18- to 24-year-old GI in a monsoon rain in a stinking rice paddy and trying to eat soggy C-rations as the voice of “Hanoi Jane” is played by the NVA. We remember.

She has never accepted the reality of her actions, nor has she sincerely apologized to the people who matter – the men and women fighting that war.

The day she stands in front of the black wall and confesses to all veterans, living or dead, that she acted in a treasonous manner, then maybe mine and other vets’ assessment of her might change.

To the letter writer, if you would like to walk, talk and listen, meet me at the National Cemetery.

As for your assessment of the character of the very people whose sacrifices allow you to spout your invective nonsense – ignorance is bliss. This we’ll defend.

I was a soldier, too. Were you?

Trump’s first year a great success

Donald Trump built a multibillion-dollar empire that spread across the world; was able to beat 17 of the best and brightest Republican candidates; and then beats the most qualified woman of our times for the presidency.

In his first year in office, the stock market has climbed to heights never seen before in history, unemployment is lower, ISIS is mostly wiped out, law and order is being restored, and regulations on companies have been reduced. Border crossings by illegal immigrants and drug trafficking are lower. All this accomplished while he has a hostile Congress and the media attacking him 24/7.

Perhaps we need more mentally ill people in Washington!

Reader omits Fox on media bias list

Lord knows, I try to avoid being overly general and label all Trump supporters as angry, gullible and not very smart. I do realize they have some valid points, which, ironically, is how we got into this mess in the first place.

Voters threw a national temper tantrum and voted in an incompetent egomaniac with a “big button” and warped enough mental make-up to use his tiny little hands to push it.

But a recent letter writer takes the cake. He runs the usual line about biased news coverage, suggests more discerning perception of the news and lists the major offenders. Then he comments on the “left’s” inability to critically view this “fake news” and to blindly follow the views of what I’m sure he considers the “liberal media.”

Problem is, when listing those media offenders, he left out one. Does the word “Fox” ring a bell? Too bad we “lefties” can’t recognize the objective truths offered by the sincere, impartial views of Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and company!

I suggest this gentleman take to heart the words of the well-known blues song: “Before you ‘cuse me, take a look at yo’ self!”
