Times Free Press wins six first-place awards

The Chattanooga Times Free Press on Thursday received six first-place awards in the Tennessee Press Association's annual newspaper contest.

The paper also received eight second-place awards and seven third-place awards for its work in 2017. The awards were presented at the press association's annual summer convention in Franklin, Tenn.

The Times Free Press received the following awards:

-First place for best Sunday editions, best personal humor column, best personal column, headline writing, best single editorial and best breaking news coverage.

-Second-place for best sports coverage, best special issue or section, community lifestyles, best single feature, best personal column, editorials, public service and best graphics or illustrations.

-Third-place for best education reporting, business coverage, sports writing, make-up and appearance, website, local features and feature photo.

The annual contest is co-sponsored by the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
