Trump, Sessions misuse Bible on border issue

Deja Vu.

In the mid-19th century, Southern Christian slaveholders responded to abolitionists along two lines of argument: first, by quoting the Bible (“slaves, obey your masters …”) and second, by claiming that slaves enjoyed much better lives: food, clothing, shelter, medical care, support in old age, etc., than poor Northern wage-workers.

They missed the point: No “benefits” could justify or compensate for enslaving fellow human beings.

Today, Christian Attorney General Jeff Sessions also quotes the Bible. And he and acting ICE Director Thomas Homan argue that migrant children “get better care than a lot of American kids do,” that “we have medical on site, we have a psychologist on site, we have education on site, and you know they have access to unlimited amount of foods. How many U.S. citizen children in this country don’t have unlimited access to fruits and vegetables, milk, juice, medical care, dental care?”
