Both Publix and Aldi are ratcheting up the competition as they ready to bring new stores to the Chattanooga market.
The two grocers combined are creating nearly 140 new jobs. Publix is prepping to open a new East Brainerd supermarket next Wednesday, while Aldi will hold a job fair Friday for a planned store off Signal Mountain Road to debut later this year.
The new Publix will be its sixth Chattanooga area store when it opens in the Waterside development near Gunbarrel and Shallowford roads.
“We opened our first store in Chattanooga 10 years ago in the Hurricane Creek Shopping Center,” said company spokeswoman Brenda Reid.
The Florida-based grocer will unveil a 45,600-square-foot supermarket that will employ 125 workers, she said.
