A Chattanooga area restaurant received a failing score of 62 for a dirty food prep area and water leaking into food, among other issues.
Shoney's at 2318 Shallowford Village Drive was reported for water leaking into onions and chocolate mousse, multiple dirty food contact surfaces, a dirty dishwashing area and utensils stored in dirty water. A health inspector also noted raw fish was stored over onion rings and lunch meat and unwrapped meat was stored in a standup cooler. Multiple food items had to be thrown out since they had spoiled or were not stored correctly, and no paper towels were found at the hand sink.
Shoney's score was later corrected to an 88.
All school facilities, cafeterias, hotels and tattoo/body piercing locations received scores of 89 or higher.
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department inspects restaurants twice a year and grades the businesses on a 100-point scale.
Scores below 70 require corrective action. Restaurants are reinspected if they fail to meet critical standards. The scores are original and do not reflect on-the-spot changes, which sometimes lead to upward adjustments.
