The Chattanooga Lookouts seem to have a hang for the new extra-inning format in minor league baseball.

Chattanooga pulled out a 9-8 victory over Jackson on Tuesday night at AT&T Field, capitalizing on a 10th-inning fielding error by Generals first baseman Rudy Flores that allowed Edgar Corcino to score the winning run from third. Corcino began the 10th on second base, which is now standard for each team in extra innings, and he advanced to third on a Nick Gordon ground out.

The Lookouts are 2-0 in extra innings this season, having won 7-6 in 10 innings at Mobile last Wednesday.

Tuesday’s triumph resulted in the Lookouts improving to 19-13 with their seventh win in eight games. Chattanooga is now just a half-game back of Jackson in the Southern League’s North Division, with the Generals dropping to 19-12.

The Generals sent the game into extra innings at 8-8 with a three-run ninth that was highlighted by a Galli Cribbs triple to right that scored Kevin Medrano and Jamie Westbrook.

T.J. White’s three-run home run to right-center in the fifth inning gave Chattanooga its first lead at 5-3, and the Lookouts added a three-run seventh to go up 8-4. Tanner English drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh for the Lookouts, which was followed by Corcino’s single to center that scored Alex Rose and White.

Jackson took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with three consecutive two-out singles by Medrano, Rudy Flores and Westrbook, but the Lookouts answered with a run later in the first via consecutive two-out singles by Gordon, Zander Wiel and Chris Paul.

The Generals took a 2-1 lead in the third when Daniel Robertson doubled to left and Medrano followed with an RBI single to right, but Chattanooga pulled even later in the third on an Alex Perez single to right that followed a Paul double to left.
