An early morning blaze destroyed a home on Signal Mountain on Sunday.

Hamilton County Emergency Services spokeswoman Amy Maxwell said the fire was reported at 1:40 a.m. on Sunset Drive.

Due to the construction on Signal Mountain Road, firefighters from the Chattanooga Fire Department responded as automatic mutual aid to the fire scene and was the first engine to arrive on the scene reporting heavy fire on the deck, Maxwell said.

Firefighters faced a challenge getting water on the fire quickly, she said. Since the house sat around 120 feet off the main road, firefighters had to lay over 2,000 feet of hose line to get water on the fire.

Fire officials mentioned the rugged terrain also created a challenge getting fire apparatus to the scene, officials said. Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department, Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department and Lone Oak Volunteer Fire Department responded as well, bringing additional tanker engines and manpower to the scene.

Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services Fire Chief Jimmy Hillis reported the house is a total loss. Damages will likely be over $1 million. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. No injuries were reported.
