Trump will be known as great president
With the mid-term elections over and after reading a recent letter to the editor, a quote from the late comedian George Carlin came to mind. He said: “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups!” The following Holy Scripture says it better. Isaiah 42:20: “Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.”
After two years of battling Democrats, establishment Republicans, fake news media and Hollywood, President Trump accomplished miracles in turning our country around. He isn’t a good president; history will prove him to be a great president.
Communism and socialism are economic and political structures that promote equality and seek to eliminate social classes. The working class owns everything, and everyone works toward the same communal goal. Migrant workers are on the same social level as doctors, lawyers, and entrepreneurs that employ them.
How well does it work in reality? People love it so much they are leaving Mexico, Honduras, Venezuela and many other socialist and communist countries in caravans by the thousands for the U.S. to vote for politicians who think just like them!

City evolution serves as inspiration
In September, the Springfield (Missouri) Area Chamber of Commerce brought 80 community, business, education and nonprofit leaders to Chattanooga.
It was the second time a group from Springfield has visited since we began our Community Leadership Visit program in 1994. Our first trip to your beautiful city was in 1998, and a lot has changed in Chattanooga since then.
Much of the change has come from a focus on the area’s natural beauty and developing the region’s workforce.
The day-to-day work of the River City Co. over more than three decades has kept the momentum moving forward, and what is now the Chattanooga Design Studio is making sure the new and renovated building projects fit the desired aesthetic for the city. In Springfield, we think of ourselves as strong collaborators, but we were inspired by how well you take dcollaboration beyond the stage of ideas.
It’s also clear that city leaders are on the same page and have a positive outlook for the city, even when it comes to addressing challenges.
We found Chattanooga to be a special place. The leaders of Springfield thank you.

‘Stolen valor’ costly to veterans’ support
I want to start off by thanking the CAVC and leaders of Hamilton County and Chattanooga for their continued support to veterans. During the Veterans Day ceremony at the Chattanooga National Cemetery, I saw a lot of proud veterans. As they should be. However, some of those proud veterans are wearing enough medals and breast insignias that make Gen. Schwarzkopf and Gen. Powell look like recruits. If you didn’t wear the medals on your uniform when active duty, don’t start now. The Supreme Court states that is legal, but your fellow veterans will call “stolen valor.”
A frequent visitor to the local VFWs, American Legions, Am Vets, and other veteran chapters, I see “members” and “officers” who never served in the armed forces. I’ve had these phonies get violent with me as they struggle to save their “stories.”
Asking all post commanders and chapter presidents to police themselves and expel these phonies’ memberships. If this situation does not improve, don’t expect membership to grow with veterans. Your license to run such a place could be in jeopardy as well.

Our ‘winner’ has no moral compass
President Trump is a winner. He can anoint winners and reveal who the “losers” are. He was a winner who was born on third base and thought he hit a triple. He was a winner when he bankrupted five businesses/casinos and walked away debt free while sticking it to contractors and investors. Because he has a very large brain and knows how to “use” the bankruptcy laws. Paying little to no taxes makes him “smart”. He just lost the House of Representatives and called it a win for the GOP. He has a new attorney general to do his dirty work with regard to the Mueller investigation. He won the presidential election by minus 3 million votes. He’s a winner all right.
This man has no shame, conscience, self-awareness or moral compass.
This draft dodger, who loves the military, plans on sending 15,000 highly trained soldiers to the border to protect USA citizens from women, children and poor Hondurans trying to escape blood and violence.
How bout we send these military forces, engineers and support units to Puerto Rico to protect the citizens there and help them rebuild their infrastructure?

Cook applauded for leaving rally
I read the David Cook column (Nov. 11) about the moral demise of the GOP in recent times and must agree totally. I applaud David for leaving the Trump rally downtown before the election, and I would have done the same had parking been less of a problem.
I know his column will result in a flurry of letters belittling Cook and his position, so this is to let him know he has those out here who totally agree with his assessment and stand firmly behind him.
David, you speak for us! Carry on!

President not his cup of tea
I became embarrassed to be a native Chattanoogan on Oct. 4, of this year. I was not shocked that Trump supporters showed up in droves and beamed and rebel-yelled at their beloved nationalist leader. Donald Trump puts low-information voters on like cheap hand puppets, and when they break he will fling you into the wastebasket of poor health coverage. Both the health insurance companies and the banks will eat them alive if they have a pre-existing medical condition and no government oversight.
Please, stop fawning over this hateful, bullying crook who has huckstered his way into the presidency. Your ignorance is embarrassing. Vote smart. Vote a straight Democratic ticket in the next election.

Trump does not get political realities
Nearly 22 months into his presidency it is now obvious that Donald Trump is a man of even temperament.
He is always angry.
His post-election response to mid-term results shows his unfamiliarity with the maxim, “What goes around comes around,” meaning per a Google search that “the consequences of one’s actions will have to be dealt with eventually.”
Rather than acknowledging that politics is cyclical – sometimes your party is up, sometimes it’s down – Trump has taken the results as a personal insult. That’s odd, given his pre-election refusal to accept any blame for the outcome.
In a post-election funk, he has “lashed out at several aides, from junior press assistants to senior officials,” according to one report. And gloated over the defeat of some GOP candidates who declined his campaign assistance.
Trump is, of course, no slouch when it comes to acrimony. Trump’s weapon of choice is his Twitter account (twitter: “to tremble with agitation”).
His favorite entertainer, apparently, is comedian Mort Sahl, who often asked his audiences, “Is there anyone I haven’t offended?”

Give students help with project
The fourth grade at Aviston Elementary, located in southern Illinois, is learning about the United States and the different environments, climates, resources and highlights found in each region.
The students in the class think it would be fun to receive postcards, souvenirs, resources or any information about our great country from each of the 50 states.
We hope that people who read this letter will be interested in mailing our class items about their state. Our address is:
Fourth Grade at Aviston Elementary
350 South Hull St.

A sincere thank you to anyone who is able to contribute. We appreciate the excitement you will add to our learning experience.
