Publix will open its sixth grocery store in the Chattanooga market next week.

Publix Super Markets will open its first store in Ringgold, Georgia at 7 a.m. next Wednesday in the Boynton Ridge Plaza Shopping Center on Battlefield Parkway.

The new supermarket - the eighth Publix to locate in the Chattanooga metropolitan area since the Lakeland, Florida-based grocery chain entered the local market more than a decade ago - will be a 46,797 square-foot store with 140 employees.

The new store will include traditional grocery, dairy and frozen food departments along with a full-service pharmacy, a full-service meat and seafood department, a full-service deli, a bakery and a produce department that carries both Publix GreenWise Market organic as well as conventionally grown fruits and vegetables. The new grocery will also include an Aprons Simple Meals cooking demonstration station offering customers two recipes each week. Meals clerks conduct live cooking presentations in the built-in kitchen area where recipes are demonstrated on a daily basis. The store includes a drive-through pharmacy.

"Publix is known for providing excellent customer service in a bright and inviting environment filled with lots of fresh products," Brenda Reid, media and community relations manager for Publix, said Friday. "We are proud to bring the Publix shopping experience to Ringgold."

Nick Millwood, mayor of Ringgold, will help cut the ribbon for the new store at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Publix, one of the Southeast's biggest grocery chains with 2017 sales of $34.6 billion, is privately owned and operates 1,1199 stores in the Southeast, including other local stores in East Brainerd, Hixson, Ooltewah, North Shore, Fort Oglethorpe and Cleveland.
