Sewanee’s football Tigers celebrated homecoming on Saturday with a 27-14 Southern Athletic Association victory over Rhodes.

The newest class of Sewanee’s hall of famers witnessed their school’s first win over the Lynx for the Edmund Orgill Cup in seven years – and its first home win over Rhodes since 2002. And Sewanee (4-5, 3-4) has its first four-win season since 2013 with a chance to match the 2011 team at 5-5 this week at Centre.

Freshman quarterback Grayson Baker was 24-of-37 passing for 256 yards and two touchdowns to Micah Maes, who caught 12 passes for 137 yards, and Zach Milan and Warren Holland each ran for a Tigers score. Lee Menefee had seven solo tackles and 10 in all, and Pierce Johnson and Wesley Porter each intercepted a Rhodes pass.

P.J. Settles, the Memphis school’s all-time leader in total offense, passed for 198 yards and ran for 125 and two touchdowns for the Lynx (4-4, 2-4). But with 1:57 left in game he was stopped short of a third touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line.

Sewanee led 13-0 at halftime and restored the 13-point margin on the ensuing possessions after both Rhodes touchdowns.
