A man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to an August drug overdose death, Chattanooga police said.
Kedrick D. Bush was charged with second-degree murder for giving opioids to Barbara Shope, 30, at a local motel, police spokeswoman Elisa Myzal said in a news release.
Chattanooga police got the call about a drug overdose at a home in the 2400 block of Williams Street at around 11:30 p.m. and found Shope already deceased.
The Hamilton County Medical Examiner later confirmed the cause of death as an opioid overdose.
Investigators with the Chattanooga police’s narcotics unit connected Bush to the drugs and established he was on scene at the time of Shope’s death.
Other charges against Bush are pending, Myzal said.
Bush is currently in custody at the Franklin County Jail. He will later be extradited to Chattanooga.
Bush was arrested in Chattanooga in September on charges of criminal simulation, criminal impersonation, possession of heroin and methamphetamine for resale and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Anyone with information about Shope’s death is asked to call 423-698-2525 or submit an anonymous tip via the Chattanooga PD Mobile App. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
