After you turn your clocks back an hour at the end of daylight savings time Sunday, Nov. 4, you can use that extra hour to hear the Mid-South Symphonic Band's fall concert on Sunday afternoon in the Volkswagen Conference Center.

The Mid-South Symphonic Band is comprised of 75 musicians from the Chattanooga area who perform under the direction of Jim Souders. It's a volunteer organization of experienced musicians from diverse backgrounds who want to continue playing after graduating from high school and university bands.

Souders says this program will include a medley of big-band favorites such as "Satin Doll" and "String of Pearls," there will be a couple of fanfares and "American Barndance."

"We are doing a lot of movie themes in this program," says Souders.

There is a medley called "At the Movies" that includes music from "La La Land," "Mama Mia" and "Chicago." A "Best of the West" medley incorporates tunes from "Paint Your Wagon," "Magnificent Seven" and "Blazing Saddles." The band will also play selections from "Mary Poppins."

"We will also play 'Songs for America' by Irving Berlin," says Souders. "It's our tribute to Veterans Day, which comes up next week." Souders says veterans in the audience will be recognized during the performance.
